You’ll always get safe, effective help in any of the many aspects of nutrition services at Glowing Health Nutrition. The nutrition field essentially divides into two main areas – clinical nutrition and general nutrition, but you don’t need to worry about which is right for you. When you book into Glowing Health Nutrition and describe your symptoms, or say why you’re making the appointment, the right service is applied for you. It all depends on your needs and goals, or what you want to achieve from your consultation.
Clinical Nutrition
Also called Nutritional Medicine, Clinical Nutrition is a field of complementary medicine that uses diet, supplements and lifestyle prescriptions to treat your health issues and concerns. It’s a natural, holistic approach that helps your body activate its own healing processes and innate tendency towards balance, re-aligning and supporting your body’s internal systems. You can use Clinical Nutrition as stand-alone therapy, or in support of, and in conjunction with, conventional medical treatment.
Conditions typically treated with Clinical Nutrition include:
General Nutrition
Drawing on broader nutritional science, General Nutrition applies verified evidence from medical research and established principles from peak health institutions to provide advice and guidance on your nutritional needs. This may include education about healthy eating, tailored recommendations for weight loss, guidance on sports preparation and recovery, advice on mature-age nutrition needs, or specialised counsel for disordered eating situations or special needs people. These services are discussed further in the break-out boxes below.
Regardless of what service you need, you can expect empathetic, respectful consultations focussed on understanding your nutritional concerns and objectives, shared decision making, and advice designed to move you towards your goals of better health.
Nutrition to prepare for and recover from competition is very different to eating for training and the everyday. Balancing protein and carbs, while ensuring enough of each to achieve recovery and optimise your performance needs a scientific approach. You need to plan for pre-event and post-event eating, proper hydration and consider what supplements are actually effective, and approved for use. Individualised guidance tailored to your level and body composition may be the boost you need.
Principal Nutritionist, Rick Lapeyre, has undertaken additional training from the Australian Centre for Eating Behaviours (ACFEB) on working with eating disorders, to the Bronze Practitioner level. These afflictions show themselves in different ways, and despite common belief they are female conditions, about 25% of people with one is male2. There are therapies to treat these disorders, but early intervention is key to successful outcomes, so please don’t delay in making an appointment to get the conversation started.
Our bodies change as we age, making it more difficult to draw the nutrients we need from our food. It can be hard to get enough protein, calcium, B vitamins and some minerals into our diets, and to know what foods to get them from. Previous eating patterns (‘diets’) may not be suitable anymore, perhaps with a little too much of what we shouldn’t have and not enough of what we should. This can leave us tired out and weary. Why not book in to discuss these changes and find out how to boost your vitality?
It’s a fact that 67% of Australian adults are overweight or obese1 and carry the related health risks1, so achieving a healthy body composition is important to our health and wellbeing. Yet even knowing that, it can be difficult to achieve sustainable weight loss. Fad ‘diets’ and fast weight loss programs aren’t the answer, but there are reliable, safe approaches that can work for you. No quick fixes, but together we can forge a plan to make a difference – just book in below and let’s get started.
An additional sense of responsibility builds in Carers of our Special Needs people, knowing they need extra care. Picky eaters that may only want the ‘white diet’ (white rice, bread, pasta) can worry their caretakers sick. You don’t need to go through the daily meals battle and nourishment concerns alone, though. 15 years personal experience with special needs eating, combined with our scientific approach can help build a plan to ease that burden, and make mealtimes more agreeable.
What’s healthy eating? How much of each food should we have? Is there an ideal eating plan (‘diet’)? Three meals/day or constant grazing? How should we time our eating? Sometimes you just have a few questions about nutrition that you want reliable, informed answers to, or you may simply want to know what nutrition is all about. Our wellbeing is important to our happiness and making the most of who we are. Have your nutrition questions answered by booking in for an informative, respectful consultation.
If Home Visit appointments don’t work for you, confidential and effective video consultations are also available. We can still discuss your situation and needs, and develop a plan of action, and you’ll still get objective, informed advice and guidance. Just select ‘Telehealth’ from the Book an Appointment button below.
