Weight Loss Nutritionist Melbourne

Weight Loss With Glowing Health Nutrition

At Glowing Health Nutrition we’ll tailor your current eating pattern to introduce the healthy elements that it may need and focus it toward meeting your weight loss goals – and you’ll learn the single most important factor to losing weight!

We focus on science-based nutrition, which is all about reliable, safe approaches that scientific evidence indicates will work.

Weight loss isn’t just about specific food items and how much you eat, though. The way we serve our food has a real impact on our consumption, as well.

Did you know that we tend to always serve ourselves the same proportion of food, as a percentage of our plate size, regardless of the plate size? In other words, the bigger the plate, the more we serve ourselves.

Similarly, we serve ourselves much more drink (think beer, wine, soft drink) in short wide glasses than tall thin ones. These and other insights are some of the take-away strategies you’ll receive to support your good weight loss efforts at home.

Regardless of where you are on your weight loss journey, you’ll always be listened to with care and respect, and be provided with considered, science-based advice, at Glowing Health Nutrition.

Weight Loss Information

‘To be flawed is to be human’ wrote Francis Duggan. None of us are perfect, of course – maybe that’s part of the beauty of being human.

Unfortunately, though, the media floods us with images of perfect bodies we’re expected to aspire to. It’s not appropriate, because the only place there is a perfect body is in a perfectly air-brushed image!

We’re all overweight to some extent, so there should be absolutely no shame about that bit extra that we carry. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t aspire to be healthy, though, and part of being healthy is to be as trim as practical for our unique genetic make-up and physiology, without being obsessive.

It is a fact, though, that 67% of us are overweight or obese, which is about 36% overweight and 31% obese, and this has been going up in recent years. The personal health problems of being overweight include higher risks of developing chronic diseases.

These could include cardiovascular disease, some cancers, asthma, back pain, kidney disease, dementia, type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease, gout, and osteoarthritis.

It’s even been estimated that as a disease obesity costs Australia around $8.6b per year!

Nutrition to Reduce Health Risks

To turn that around, every bit of body fat that we lose helps to lower those risks – and makes us feel that much better. We know that achieving a healthy body size is important to our health and wellbeing (physical and mental), but even in doing that we need to do it in a healthy way. Lose too much all at once and it’s mainly just water and some muscle that you’re taking off, but not losing enough is ineffective.

Yes, it can be difficult to achieve sustainable weight loss, but it is readily achievable with the right approach and good advice.

Where do you start, though? There are so many ‘diets’ on the internet and social media, is there one that’s right for you? Most fad diets and fast weight loss programs just don’t work in the long term, and any program that eliminates a whole food group also tends to eliminate key nutrients that we need. They’re not really nutritionally sound or sustainable over time.

Intermittent Fasting

Of course, it wouldn’t be a weight loss discussion without mentioning intermittent fasting.

Does it work? Well, let’s look at it.

The two main types restrict either how much you eat (energy restriction), or when you eat (time restriction).

Energy Restriction

Energy restriction limits the amount of food you have to around 30% or less of your usual intake on either two days out of five (the 5:2 version) or every alternate day (one day on, one day off).

Time Restriction

Time restriction limits when you eat to about an 8-10 hour continuous window every day (say 12:00pm – 8:00pm).

Intermittent fasting does help improve a number of health conditions, like cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, some cancers and mental health conditions, as well as weight loss, depending on people’s individual circumstances and their ability to stick with it.

Ultimately, the effectiveness of intermittent fasting comes down to coping with being hungry for extended periods of the day or week. However, it shouldn’t be a test or measure of strength, it’s just a tool that works for some and not for others. It would be evaluated as appropriate for you or not in a weight loss appointment.

Our approach is to first understand you and your circumstances – what you’ve already tried and what you want to achieve. Then we’ll agree on appropriate targets and give you understandable, practical information and tools to get you underway. We’re here to help you achieve your weight loss goals and are with you on your nutrition journey for as long as you need us.

Science-Based Nutrition for Weight Loss

We know maintaining a healthy weight is important to you. Being overweight has many negative consequences for our overall health and puts us at greater risk of developing chronic illnesses, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even some cancers.

With 67% of our population currently overweight, it’s no surprise that obesity costs Australia almost $9b a year.

Weight loss can help lower our risk and improve our physical and mental health, but it’s often more difficult than it sounds. Maybe you’ve found it’s much easier for you to gain weight than to lose it.

Perhaps you’ve tried a diet program that has caused you to lose weight quickly but which, over time, has been difficult to maintain. You might find yourself wanting to lose weight and get healthy but unsure of the best way.

Our team at Glowing Health Nutrition is just what you’ve been looking for. We strive to turn weight woes around with our commitment to providing quality, professional nutrition support to those seeking to lose weight and get healthy.

Our weight loss methods are reliably supported by what we call science-based nutrition. This approach uses evidence, information, and expertise from key scientific institutions, along with particular information relevant to you and your health circumstances, to help us make safe recommendations tailored to you, your needs, and your weight loss goals.

Weight Loss Nutrition FAQ

Can a nutritionist help you lose weight?

Yes. Our friendly team at Glowing Health Nutrition includes experienced and professional nutritionists who can help you start and maintain your weight loss journey.

How can I lose weight?

Weight loss might seem impossible, but it doesn’t need to be. The way we serve our food, how much we eat, and how frequently all have impacts on our weight.

What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting uses either a restriction of energy (how much you eat) or time (how often you eat) as a means of controlling weight and improving health. It’s a weight loss tool, not a measure of psychological strength, and our team would discuss it and all available options with you to help you make the best choice.

Will my plan be personalised to my circumstances?

Yes. We recognise that each person comes with unique circumstances, abilities and goals. Our friendly, caring team will offer you a personalised weight loss plan to ensure you feel confident and supported.

How do I find out more?

We’d love to hear from you and discuss the plan that’s right for you. You can book an appointment online or call us on 0414 825 015.
